Lykke cryptocurrency exchange halted withdrawals after an exploit on June 4, as announced on June 10. The exchange assured that users’ funds are safe and will be recovered. Both Lykke UK and Lykke Corp AG were affected. Withdrawals were paused as a preventative measure.
Lykke, a Swiss centralized exchange founded in 2015, claims to be a “no fee crypto exchange” evolving from a prominent forex broker.
On June 8, a user reported the exchange wasn’t working amidst hack rumors. On June 10, Lykke apologized for the inconvenience, stating its solid capital reserves and diverse portfolio would cover losses, ensuring client funds’ safety. They are investigating the attacker using discovered IP addresses and hired a cybersecurity team to block and recover stolen assets. The estimated loss is over $22 million.
